Hand sanitizer on the market can be pided into two categories according to the way of use: one is the traditional washing-type hand sanitizer, including ordinary hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial (antibacterial) hand sanitizer; the other is a non-water-based hand sanitizer, that is, non-rinse hand sanitizer (including hand sanitizing gel, etc.), without the need to wash after use, the way is different from the traditional hand sanitizer.
Ordinary hand sanitizer: It is a water-based washable product formulated with surfactants and conditioning agents, and does not contain antibacterial or antiseptic ingredients, and its main function is to clean the skin, without bactericidal or antiseptic function.
Antibacterial hand sanitizer: also known as special hand sanitizer, is a surfactant and conditioning agent formulated with cleaning and antibacterial, antimicrobial special function of the wash-type products, according to the function is pided into antimicrobial and antibacterial type.
The so-called antimicrobial refers to the use of chemical or physical methods to kill or hinder the growth and reproduction of bacteria, which can reduce their number as well as the process of activity. Bacteriostatic refers to the process of using chemical or physical methods to inhibit or hinder the growth and reproduction of bacteria and their activity. Compared with ordinary hand sanitizers, anti (antibacterial) hand sanitizers function not only to clean the skin, but also have a certain bactericidal or antibacterial effect.
No-rinse hand sanitizers (including hand sanitizing gels): are non-washable products formulated with conditioners and moisturizers that are suitable for hand cleansing. The way of use is different from the traditional water-washing type of hand sanitizer, in the use of the appropriate amount in the palm of the hand, hands rubbing each other to make uniformly coated hands until dry, without the need to wash. Such products on the market usually contain antiseptic or antibacterial ingredients, with a certain anti-bacterial (antibacterial) or disinfectant function.
Ordinary hand sanitizer, that is, hand sanitizer does not have antibacterial and antimicrobial efficacy, belongs to the non-special use cosmetics, must meet the requirements of the provisions of the "Technical Code for Cosmetic Safety" (2015 edition), the product for the record, arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, total bacterial counts, molds and yeast total counts, heat-resistant coliforms, Staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other project tests. In addition, GB/T 34855-2017 "hand sanitizer" product standard was implemented in May 2018, which put forward more detailed requirements for quality control.
Antibacterial hand sanitizer, due to the role of killing or inhibiting germs, is categorized as a disinfection product for supervision in China, and must meet the GB 19877.1-2005 "Special Hand Sanitizer" standard and WS 628-2018 "Technical Requirements for Sanitization Product Hygiene and Safety Evaluation", and should also be filed for the record before going on sale, and carry out the inspection of the content of the active ingredient, the antimicrobial rate/inhibitory rate, and other items. Among them, hand sanitizers labeled with antibacterial efficacy need to have a bactericidal rate of ≥90%; those labeled with bacteriostatic efficacy should have a bacteriostatic rate of ≥50%.
